Camino Day 16: Ages to Burgos

Date: April 16th, 2022

Distance: 23km/14 miles

Time: 6 hours (8:45-2:30pm)

Today was day 2 of sending our packs ahead and feeling as free as birds while walking. A beautiful decision. We enjoyed a cafe con leche before setting off.

I felt energized and motivated. Today’s walk was fueled by my Camino playlist, cafe con leche and fresh juice stops, & inspirational rocks.

In the afternoon, we stopped at a shady spot and and soaked our feet in the river. We followed the river the rest of the way to Burgos, walking on a beautiful path in the park for the last hour and a half.

Making it to Burgos was BIG! Burgos had seemed so far away those first rough weeks, and we had had our doubts about even making it. Burgos is one of the bigger cities along the Camino, and our spirits were high as we arrived with an Easter rest day ahead of us. We had some celebratory cava and nice dishes downtown at Maricastaña.

We reunited with our amigos Nuno, Tash & Chris- we were stoked to check in to our bougie Airbnb together with a fantastic balcony, where we would have 2 nights. (Rest day tomorrow for Easter.)

It will come as no surprise that we went downtown and enjoyed the lively atmosphere in the plaza along with many drinks. (Many drinks seems to be a theme when the Irish pilgrims invite you to drink with them.. haha)

Without our usual 10pm albergue curfew, we stayed out late, laughing our way between pintxos bars. Much fun was had. 😉
