Date: April 28th, 2022
Distance: 32km/19.8miles
Time: 10 hours (9:00am to 7:00pm)
One of the longest distances and days yet! This stretch is known to be one of the least pleasant on the entire Camino… I certainly found that to be true. It took several hours to get out of the city center and suburbs of Leon.
The rest of the day was full of noise pollution, traffic, unpleasantness.. etc. We walked along a busy and bustling highway for pretty much the entire day. And that’s about all I have to report!
32 km is a longggg day. It required several stops. Shoulder pain. New blisters forming. Chris, Tash and I stopped for an afternoon drink to get us through the last 6.7km.
We arrived just in time for dinner, around 7:00pm, and it was too much food as usual- pasta, chorizo, cheesecake, wine.
We ended the night in a fit of laughter trying to figure out where the feet smell in our room was coming from. After all the shoes, clothes, pits, feet and bags had been smelled, turns out it was coming from Frances’ new sleep medication.
I went to sleep with a smile on my face, as per usual.
Two months after completing the Camino, this is what’s on my mind and heart…
July 20, 2022The bittersweet final celebrations… joyful, sad, emotional and everything in between…
